Mitch McPike scored the equaliser to earn Blues a draw at Crewe.

Schoolboy Mitch McPike was Blues' hero as the U18's came back from a goal down to earn a draw at Crewe Alexandra in their second league match of the season.

Chris Clements opened the scoring for Crewe in the first half but McPike rescued a point for his side with an excellent long range effort after the break.

Blues pushed hard for a winner but found it hard to break through a resolute home defence and in the end had to settle for a draw.

"I was delighted with the way we came back from a goal down," said Academy manager Terry Westley.

"We showed a bit of character in the second half to get back and stay on top of them and eventually get the goal.

"It was a good goal from Mitch. He is still improving all the time.

"We looked the more likely side to get the second goal but didn't have quite enough in that final third to create a goal-scoring chance to win it."
