MCLEISH'S POST MATCH COMMENTS
Alex McLeish has vowed to put his 'own stamp on the club' after seeing his Blues side drop back into the Championship despite today's comprehensive win over Blackburn.
Blues won 4-1 against Mark Hughes's men but wins elsewhere for Fulham and Reading left McLeish's side in 19th place and facing life outside of the top flight.
"It is my plan to bring in more players to the club. I've got to add my own stamp on the club and we should hopefully see some changes in the summer," said the Blues boss.
"I'm proud of the guys today that have performed like that in the last game.
"But it's been a long, tough season over 38 games and we didn't quite do it.
"Unfortunately the 24 points out of the 24 games under my charge, which would normally be enough, hasn't been.
"I'm proud of the players who have punched above their weight on many occassions and they have done it again today against a very solid Blackburn side and it shows what they can do."
McLeish also praised the St. Andrew's crowd who were very supportive towards the team throughout the game.
He added: "Top marks to the fans for the fantastic backing they gave the team.
"It was very positive and the players responded with an outstanding performance.
"The results didn't go for us elsewhere and we have lost out by a point."
Blues were forced to make a late team change with James McFadden pulling up through injury during the warm-up.
"James has been compensating for his sore knee since his surgery and as a result he's had a tight calf over the past couple of weeks," explained McLeish.
"We took a calculated gamble because of his ability to win a game.
"He felt better this morning but his calf stiffened up in the warm-up and, with Blackburn's permission, the referee allowed us to change the personnel on the bench."
