Northern Ireland international Damien Johnson joined Blues in March 2002 for a fee of just £50,000 from Blackburn Rovers, having made over 100 appearances for the Lancashire club after progressing through their Academy ranks.
Johnson, who can also operate in defence when called upon, has been described by Steve Bruce as the best ever signing of his time at the Blues managerial helm.
Johnson's battling performances and never-say-die attitude earned him both the Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards at the end of the 2005/06 season.
He was appointed club captain for the 2006/07 season and, although his season was punctuated by a broken jaw, he still made 25 league appearances and scored a crucial equalising goal against West Brom in March 2007.
