Twenty-four-year-old striker Garry O'Connor joined Blues from Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow for a fee of £2.7 million in July 2007.O'Connor has signed a three-year deal at St. Andrew's with the option of another two years.
The Edinburgh-born player began his career with home city club Hibernian, making his debut in April 2001.
The combative forward notched an impressive nine goals in just 14 starts in his first full season in Scottish Premier League football in 2001/02.
At the end of that campaign came his first call-up to the Scotland international squad and he made his debut against South Korea in May 2002.
O'Connor initially failed to live up to his early promise but the arrival of Tony Mowbray at the Hibs helm in May 2004 sparked a massive improvement in the striker's game.
He received a recall to the national squad and scored his first Scotland goal in a 2-2 draw with Austria in August 2005.
Another commanding campaign in 2005/06 led to a £1.6 million bid from Lokomotiv Moscow in March 2006 and O'Connor left Hibs having made a total of 166 appearances and scored 58 goals for the Easter Road club.
O'Connor made an immediate impact in the Russian capital scoring against city rivals Spartak Moscow in only his second appearance for the club.
The striker went onto to score a total of seven goals in 33 league appearances but it was in the Russian Cup that O'Connor guaranteed a permanent place in the hearts of Lokomotiv's fans.
In one of his last games for the club, on 27 May 2007, he notched the extra-time winner to seal a 1-0 victory over another of the big city neighbours, FK Moscow, to lift the trophy.
His goal-scoring form continued just three days later as he grabbed the winner for Scotland in their 1-0 friendly success over Austria and he followed that up a week later with another in the 2-0 Euro 2008 qualifying victory over the Faroe Islands.
