zarateBlues completed the loan signing of Argentinian striker Mauro Zarate from Qatari side Al-Sadd during the January 2008 transfer window.

The U20 international has joined the club until the end of the 2007/08 season.

The 20-year-old only moved to Al-Sadd last June for a fee of £10m from Argentinian side Velez Sarsfield but struggled to adapt to Middle Eastern football.

Prior to his move to Qatar, Zarate was the joint leading scorer in Argentina's Apertura with 12 goals during the 2006 season.

He was also a key member of the Argentina U20 team which won the 2007 FIFA U20 World Cup, scoring the winning goal in the final against the Czech Republic.

Zarate made his Blues debut as a second half substitute against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on January 29, 2008.
